Jun Hwi Cho, piano

Under the tutelage of Sir András Schiff and Emanuel Ax, Jun Hwi Cho has been forging his craft with his impressive musicality and pianism.

Born in Korea in 1996, Jun Hwi Cho started learning piano at the age of 9, a little late as a pianist.

He studied at the National Institute of Gifted Education until his early teens and won many awards in his home country, including Yewon Music Competition, Korea Chopin Competition, Christian Broadcasting National Music Competition, and Korea Piano Duo Competition.

He performed with the Bucheon Symphonia Orchestra in Seoul at the age of 10 and made his debut as a pianist at the age of 12 with a solo concert sponsored by the Kumho Asiana Cultural Foundation.

In addition, he appeared on Korea Broadcasting System, a state-run broadcaster, and received favorable reviews for his performance.

Then in the fall of 2012, he moved to the United States and began a new musical journey while attending the Pre-College of The Juilliard School.

He won first prize in both the New York International Piano Competition and the Carnegie Hall debut international competition in 2014 and began performing regularly in the United States from that year until now.

In 2014, Jun Hwi debuted at Carnegie Hall, recitals at the historic Philips Collection in Washington, D.C., and holds additional regular concerts throughout the United States.

The Washington Post evaluated Cho's Philips collection recital as follows: "Cho's rhythm control is admirable. The pianist showed a mature drama and timing that projected clarity in thunderstorms and freely traversed music."

In 2015, he competed in the Leeds Competition, and in 2016, she won the Semi-Finalist Award as the youngest participant in the Queen Elizabeth International Music Competition, drawing keen attention in Europe. In particular, Mozart's orchestra performance drew enthusiastic responses from the audience.

After entering Juilliard School with the Top highest grades in the fall of 2015, I was taught by world-class masters, especially through a master class with Sir Andras Schiff, which aired on Medici TV.

Since then, Sir Schiff has continued to recognize Jun Hwi's music and tell him the depth of another piece of music.

Also, Professor Emanuel Ex, whom he met during his master's degree at Juilliard, reminded him of another world of piano.

Jun Hwi also participated in the master class series of Murray Perahia and Menahem Pressler and met Professor Richard Goode with the introduction of Professor Emanuel Ax to learn the essence of Beethoven's piano music.

Presently, Jun Hwi graduated from Juilliard School(Bachelor & Master of Music) under the guidance of Emanuel Ax and Matti Raekallio and started studying at Yale School of Music(Master of Musical Arts) with Professor Boris Berman.
