Alice Burla, piano
22 year old Alice Burla, called an "extraordinary talent" by the New York Times, stands out for her colorful, intelligent and open approach to music.
Alice has performed both as a soloist and chamber musician in famous venues such as Carnegie Hall, Teatro la Fenice, Palau de la Música Catalana (Barcelona), Auditorio Nacional (Madrid), Fundación Juan March, Auditorio Ciudad de León, Palacio de Festivales de Santander, Salle Cortot (Paris), World Economic Forum (Geneva), Musical Theater Basel, Wiener Saal at the Mozarteum (Salzburg), Steinway Hall, Cathedral of St. John the Divine (New York City), ACT City Concert Hall in Hamamatsu (Japan), and Glenn Gould Studio at CBC Radio (Toronto).
Alice has participated in major international festivals such as the Verbier Festival Academy, International Summer Academy Mozarteum (Salzburg), Encuentro de Música y Academia de Santander, Tel Hai International Piano Master Classes (Israel), Paderewski Piano Academy (Poland), Hamamatsu International Piano Academy, and International Piano Master Classes in Berlin, and has worked with renowned musicians such as Ferenc Rados, Gabor Tákacs-Nagy, Piotr Paleczny, Andrzej Jasinski, Sergei Babayan, Dmitri Alexeev, Joaquín Soriano, Klaus Hellwig, Sequeira Costa, Tatiana Zelikman, and Emanuel Krasovsky.
This June she made her debut with the Sinfonieorchester Basel, performing Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 2 under the baton of Christoph Gedschold. She has performed as a soloist with several other orchestras, including the Brooklyn Philharmonic, Manhattan Chamber Orchestra, New York Sinfonietta, Chamber Orchestra Amadeus (Mexico), Donetsk Philharmonic Orchestra (Ukraine), and Torun Symphony Orchestra (Poland).
Together with Pierre Delignies, Alice is cofounder of piano duo IndiviDUAL, an ensemble born to explore the realm of duality in unity. This project has brought them to various cities in Spain, Holland and the United States to perform. They have appeared on National Spanish Radio, both performing and interviewed. IndiviDUAL’s most recent events included their debut at the Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona as participants of the Primer Palau, after which they received the Premio Palau Accésit and and Critic Prizes. Last June they made their debut at the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam as part of the PROMS day of the Holland Festival.
As a chamber musician Burla currently has a duo with Spanish cellist Alfredo Ferre; she has collaborated with Maxim Vengerov, Eduard Brunner and Oxana Yablonskaya, and has performed as part of the Sinfonietta of the Escuela Superior de Musica Reina Sofia under the direction of Péter Eötvös. She has received instruction from musicians such as Anton Kernjak, Naum Grubert, Ivan Monighetti, Frans Helmerson, Marta Gulyas, Luis Fernando Pérez, and Jennifer Combs.
Her performances have been featured on American PBS telecasts of "Live from Carnegie Hall", on WQXR as part of the "From the Top" national radio broadcast, and she has appeared on Swiss and Spanish National Radio.
In 2010, Ms. Burla appeared as a piano prodigy in the 20th Century Fox major film Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, directed by Oliver Stone.
Born in Toronto, Alice began studying piano at the age of 4, made her orchestral debut at 5 and played her first solo recital at 6. She was one of the youngest students ever accepted to The Juilliard School, where she studied with Oxana Yablonskaya. Alice Burla has been awarded the 2013 American Prize, 1st prize at the Canadian National Music Competition, 8th New York Music Competition, and was a Finalist at the 13th Hamamatsu International Piano Academy Competition in Japan.
From 2013-2016, Alice Burla studied with world-renowned professor Dmitri Bashkirov at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid.
She is currently studying with Prof. Claudio Martínez Mehner at the Musik Akademie Basel in Basel, Switzerland.
